Of course the most interesting recent development on the animal-rights front lines came recently in the form of a nearly 80-year-old former helpmate to Mao Tse-tung, who staged a protest against the Guandong practice of eating cats. According to the L.A. Times, Lu Di formed China's Small Animal Protection Association, through which she attempts to halt a dietary practice she calls "a crime that humiliates all Chinese people."
The prospect of eating cat is distasteful to those in the U.S., even to the most intrepid of stomachs. Even the Weird Meat crew -- which has consumed everything from ant extract to yak flesh -- has yet to opt for feline, although placenta has made the cut, and with dog meat on the list, cat can't be too far behind.
My task is not to judge, and I'm of two minds on this cat thing. First, there's the obvious. Weird Meat asks in this case, why cat? But I say, the more important question is, especially in light of Guangdong's ecumenical approach to meat-eating, why NOT cat? There's no logical reason why a cat should be spared the fate that befalls a cow, sheep, or pig. One woman's breakfast bacon is another's pet Wilbur.
This is partly why I became a vegetarian back in 1989. I could never sanction eating my dog, a Maltese/Lhasa Apso mix named Mitzi. She'd been with me since I was seven years old, and I couldn't imagine ever looking at her as food, even if I were starving. I imagined that if I raised a pig as my pet, I'd come to feel the same way about the pig as well. Any animal could be someone's pet, so any animal could be arbitrarily deigned off-limits as potential food, depending on human whim.
Logically speaking, either ALL animals should be off-limits or NO animals should be off-limits as food. We shouldn't play favorites when it comes to which animals to eat. Farmers know this. It's why Charlotte shouldn't have befriended Wilbur.
As I write this, my cat sleeps by my side. Of course, I could never feast on her flesh. But what bothers me is that the pictures of dishes that are perfectly acceptable menu items in South Korea, despite the ingredient of dog meat, look like any other meat dish.
I used to live in a neighborhood in St. Louis called "Dogtown," by the way. It's rumored to have taken its name from Korean immigrants who lived there and often ate dogs. However, that rumor appears to have racist and specious origins, as the name most likely came from squatters who defended their shacks using watchdogs.
It's worth noting that the protests of Guandong's cat-eating practices often take on judgmental tones. From the L.A. Times: 'Guangdong people are the most unprincipled of the human species!' wrote one person. 'They would eat their mothers-in-law if there was no law.'
NOT on tonight's menu: my cat.

This cat looks very healthy.....

This hardly ever happens out of the blue: there are usually warning signs such as noise, vibration or heat.

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Keep them coming! That said, just as the strongest startups today are managing to get.I will try to play as soon as I get home from work. I'm not a pastel kind of person, so this will be a fun challenge.
The last thing the Banks need at the moment is to be holding the Title on property that no one wants and in most cases can't afford.
